Reading Respons / S.A.M.R models / The Brain

The part that I feel was the most notable out of the reading was in the "Counting Slides (or images, links, or ant other digital component of a task)" This section of the article talked about how some teachers feel as if their technology integration requirements were met by having their students create a PowerPoint with so many slides. With assignment like this that have this quantifiable criteria, the students are not seeing the value in them. When their is a set number rather it is for slides or links that is needed the students are unlikely to be creative.

I found this to be very interesting as I can remember the first time a played on a very bulky desk top computer and watch technology evolve through the years. I can remember be told to make a PowerPoint and just like the article states, making sure I had just the right amount of slides and was not overly interested in making it my own. PowerPoints were it when I was in school, other than using Word. The article basically talks about of the use of technology has evolved and its time for teacher to catch up. Start teaching and using the different tools out there.

The SAMR Models all show the four main categories, (substitution, Augmentation, Modification, & Redefinition) broken down into their purpose as well as examples of what kind of app could be used for each specific group. At first I was a little confused by all the information however it did not take long to see the value in the information. What I found to be the most informative would be the Padagogy Wheel V2.0 and its examples of the apps one could use.

The Brain is a mind mapping tool. It can be used by teachers or students. I would imagine it could start to be used and be usefully for students starting from mid-junior high and on. This site can be used in any media tool from your phone to computer and obviously everything in-between. I like this tool because you can have an idea and make side notes and well as add additional websites or documents. I do have a few questions still about this site. Is it possible to collaborate with others? Would it be possible to add pictures?

Tying all of three of these topic together. Technology is so very important and will just keep evolving. It is more important than ever for teachers to not only know the technology they are using, to keep up with the forever evolving platforms and all while teaching their students so they will have the upper hand when moving onward and upward. Teachers always in my opinion had a tough job but technology adds another layer especially to those teacher that are getting ready to retire in a year or so. Now I know some soon to retire teacher completely embrace technology and work very hard to understand it, I have talked to others that I completely against the change and one who has had a difficult time adapting so much so that the students suffered a little.

"We know that the nature of literacy has changed in the digital age, but unfortunately, we do not have decades to catch up to this change. In other words, we cannot take three decades to put down the metaphorical “red pen” as it relates to digital literacy instruction."
