Digital citizenship vs. Digital literacy
When it comes to citizenship vs. literacy, I think there is a huge difference between the two, literacy is having the knowledge of how to use the internet in a useful way, whereas citizenship is actually broadcasting yourself out there and participating in the internet. Becoming educated on digital citizenship should be important not only for students but people everywhere, so we can be safe and ethical online in a responsible manner. People should not be in fear of the use of internet but take it as a positive useful way to communicate with one another. Most people sometimes do fear the internet because of how now a days everything you put onto the internet is permanent, but knowing what is okay and what is not to be posting should be taught to our students so we can prevent further mistakes. I really agree with Kathleen Morris and her take on digital citizenship because she stresses the impact all of our footprints and how big of an impact they can make on our lives and others as well. Becoming mindful of what we are displaying for the world online can only help us to model this behavior onto our students so they are able to practice safely leaving a footprint on others lives online. I feel that Kathleen's blog can help relieve stress from a lot of parents as well giving them more insight on the topic at hand.
Hi Emma,
ReplyDeleteI had the same thoughts on the difference between digital literacy and digital citizenship. It is great to know how digital platforms work, but even better to know how to use them to get the most out of them while also using them safely.
