Digital Footprint.

After reading "Teaching Children About Digital Footprints and Online Reputations" by Kathleen Morris, I have become more aware of the importance of teaching children not only how to be safe online but also how the world will see them. The world has changed so much since I was growing up, your reputation now fallows you from school to school and eventually from job to job.  Children today are linked to old schools, classrooms, neighborhoods all through the internet, where everyone can view all the positive and negative things that they themselves posted and subjects they might be connected with because of others tagging them. As a teacher its our job to guild our students to making wise choices when using the internet, reminding them that things said or done online stay with you for the rest of their lives. I most certainly have changed my views on certain subjects between now and from the time I was 16 and would hope that I would not be judged on those views now as an adult. This is why its important to stress the impact of a Childs digital footprint while they are connected to the internet.

  1. What do you think is the most important thing to teach our children about their digital footprints? I think it is that once something is put into the digital world it can not be completely taken back.

  3. I had a co-worker tell me about a project her Childs school did to teach the kids about digital footprints, they sent a picture of the map of the world and asked families of the school to share it and have people comment saying where in the world they were. They had posts from all over the world, I liked how it showed the children how linked in everyone really is.
