My Lesson Plan #2

In my lesson Plan #2, I focused on counting numbers. One of the foundations in education is numbers. My lesson plan included games and educational methods teacher, parents, and students can use to teach number. After basic numbers are taught, students and then learn to count by 5's, 10's or 20's. Therefore my entire lesson was just based off number introduction to young children.

Assessment/ Tool

I picked Kahoot for my quiz. I was able to make an assessment for my lesson plan on comparing bigger and smaller things for preschoolers. It can be done in smaller groups with my plan. My lesson plan the children were to split the students into four groups. So apart of the one groups can take the assessment. I can read the questions to them and to go over the questions after they answer the questions we would go over them. There were 5 questions and 2 options each and they can select the correct answers.

Lesson Plan 2

My lesson plan 2 I decided to do sink or float. I will be using Quizizz for this so the children will be able to interact with the smart board. I will be reading a book and going over vocabulary with them before hand so they know the differences between the objects that will sink or float. Taking into consideration all students with disabilities and who are ELL I am here to help. My students which are ELL will be given the same Quizizz as everyone else but I can program their device to the language which they are speaking for them to understand. It will help them as well to have the picture for a large visual.
The limitations with this site is that children must have a computer, phone, or tablet in order to access this. They will know how to be internet safe before using the technology so hopefully it won't be an issue.

Lesson plan 2

For my lesson activity, I plan to use two different tools. I will present a powerpoint going over what matter is that includes solids, liquids, and gases for a 4th grade science curriculum. Followed by the powerpoint they will be testing their knowledge of the content through kahoot and Flip Grid video.

Kahoot was interesting to learn about as doing it from a teaching prospective. Its a great way to have fun and incorporate learning from within the class.  Students will be be required to answer questions on kahoot from the matter presentation we went over in class via powerpoint.  Students are required to have their own kind of technology such as a phone if the school does not provide resources for them to use. This tool times the students on how fast they answer a question and shows a leader board after each question is asked which can create some limitations if some students names are on the leader board while others are not. Another limitation can be for those who are ESL/ELL learners or deaf/hard at hearing. Students may have trouble reading the prompts or may not do very well with the time restraint.

Flipgrid video is also a great resource for students who have a disability because it allows the student to stop and process the information prior to talking. The video response also opens up availability to deaf students so they can sign their answers. Flipgrid is not timed like kahoot, so the pressure of answering in 20 seconds does not apply to the students.

Assistive Technology Guidance Manual

Universal Design for Learning  is a set of principles that guide curriculum development resulting in equal opportunities for learning of all students. There are guidelines and qualifications that must me met for each grade for a student to be at standard levels. They take into consideration that not all learning can be taught the same and that all students will understand so that is why they have extra help for those who have a harder time at learning. When I was doing my observational hours in a SPED classroom, there were some students who were taken out of the classroom because they were not up to the standard in the class and needed more guided learning. Teachers should have a variety of how they teach material such as objectives on the board, they also need to be reiterated vocally because some people are auditory learners. Both UDL and AT have three common goals for learning variability that being students are able to receive multiple representations of the content that are best suited for the individual student. Students are to be engaged in curricular activities in a way that is informative into what is being taught. Finally students are allowed to present evidence of their learning that is best effective for them and how they actually learned the topic.

Who Knew Testing Could Be FUN?

I ended up choosing Go Formative as the assessment tool for my Lesson #2. I originally picked this tool because it said it would be great in a one-on-one math session which sounds great for my focus in math. Playing around with it, there are so many options available in just the free version that it's actually shocking. Signing up is very easy, you're not bombarded with deals that you can buy, and you can even search for what standards you have to follow so they're readily available to you. You can choose between a whiteboard that kids can draw/type in to explain their problem-solving skills or show their work, with a live update on what they are drawing to your screen. There are multiple choice, true or false, multiple selection, short answer, and essay. If you wanted to pay for more you can allow students to submit a voice response, do a category question, graph a math equation, order a sequence, and even fill in a numeric equation. You can assign how many points each question is worth, attach the specific standard that problem works with from when you picked what standards you are aiming for when you first signed up. There are a lot of options for how you want to see the results too but that can be a whole other paragraph. Sharing is made easy with a link that I've attached here, or you can go to the website GoFormative and type in this code (NVFYHC) to take my short quiz.

Overall, I love this tool and I only spent one class period playing around with it!
