Digital Footprints
I think digital literacy is very important to everyone and should be taught properly. Students are not educated with how to use the internet and what to put out there and what to not. Many may think that if they enter something on the internet and don't like it, they can delete it and go away. When in reality it's never deleted, it's just somewhere else. Some ways you can teach students as Kathleen Morris stated is, avoid sharing personal information as referred to the word YAPPY, " Your full name, Address, Phone Number, Passwords, and Your plans. Students need to know what to expose and what not too. Kids nowadays are introduced with technology at a young age possibly at age 2. These kids know how to use technology more than we do as adults.

I like how you brought up that children are exposed to technology today at a much younger age than we were when we were growing up. This is why I think it is important to teach about a digital footprint not only in school, but also at home before starting school. Parents should be keeping track of what their children do online at home and should be making rules and limits for them.
ReplyDeleteYou raised an excellent point when you made the statement that the children know how to use technology more than us adults do. However, I feel that because of that they may get too prideful and think they're above the consequences of posting personal information online. Maybe our job as parents and educators is not necessarily how to teach them to use technology, but more so how to help them avoid from making permanent mistakes with it?
ReplyDeleteI Totally agree with your blog!
ReplyDeleteAt a young age children are being addicted to technology. My son is two years old and he is already attached to this tablet in which he got for Christmas. In order to have control over his device, we have set up parental controls, this only allows him to have a maximum of 45 minutes of screen time per day. We are also able to monitor which sites he can and cannot go on. In his case, he is only allowed to play educational games and watch children youtube. Parents should monitor their children.
