Digital Literacy thoughts

Something that struck me as relatable through out the article was the part where it talks about practices that destroy digital literacy. I found this relatable because up to this point in many of our classes we have used slideshow's and PowerPoints for many presentations. As stated In the article by troy Hicks "Rather than focusing on content— and developing an appropriate message—the assignments focus on the most basic elements of form: the things that can be counted" I think sometimes we are limited to our creativity because some assignments require you to only have a certain number of slides or points which can take away from an assignment. when talking about bloom's digital Taxonomy There can be a website or functional digital website that could help expand their creativity but we need to put less strains on every child's creativity. After looking at what Hicks had t say and then the different sites that could be used in the classroom I think that I agree when he says "we appreciate the idea of manipulating data in an interactive graph, we despair when the audience input fails to guide the conversation." as long as the technology allows the participants to include their thoughts and ideas and their own input I think it should continue to be introduced in classrooms. I think the websites I saw today such as loomio and poplet were great examples of how to get everyone involved and have their own input. As technology advances so do the websites that are coming up and as long as we find new ways to collaborate not only teacher to student but also student to student we are heading In the right direction.

  1. Yes, we are inhibited by having page maxes and slide maxes for projects. Things like the mind mapping sites may be able to get rid of that. They can allow more content without the limitations of slide counts.
