Digital Literacy

"Students use blogs,
podcasts, and digital movie-making programs, yet
these digital writing tools are often brought in at
the end of a unit, usually if there is “extra” time
after all the normal content (and test prep) has been
covered, and never in a sustained, inquiry-based
manner."
Technology has gradually increased within the last five years in a classroom setting. I think the use of technology is efficient because it allows students to expand their knowledge in different ways. Technology can also help a teacher with practicing skills and techniques that she has taught to the classroom. It also helps the students with implementing the material they have learned earlier in the classroom. Students should become familiarized with activities through technology to be able to recognize their capabilities of the material taught to them.
The SAMR Model that was presented shows numerous ways to incorporate technology in a classroom environment. I think that it represents ways that can help students to implement the information they are learning into useful apps or websites. There are five ways to use the SAMR model; create, remember/understand, apply, analyse, and evaluate. In these ways the student can distinguish which way works best for them.
I have always been in support of the use of technology in a classroom because of the benefits it has for students. There are many ways that technology can be implemented to help a student with their specific need. If a student is struggling in a certain subject, they may look for more assistance through websites or videos recommended by the teacher. Therefore, technology has many effective ways in helping a student increase their knowledge or improve on a certain skill.
