Digital literacy

I found the article very interesting there are a lot of do's and don'ts that they point out for digital literacy. I agree with the article that technology would be beneficial if we used it properly with the functions that are intended for learning. I think that students get very distracted now a days due to the fact that they spend most of there time on social media or doing things with there phone, they see technology as leisure time. I like in the article that it states, "In the districts where technology is plentiful, and access to the Internet is reliable, teachers and students report that they are not using the technologies available to them to create and consume texts in critical, creative ways. Technology is an add-on, rather than an opportunity to develop digital literacies." Also there are a lot of schools that do not have the resources readily available to them which I feel is not right because then we have skills and requirements all over the board which then creates a gap between rich and poor areas. The schools that are in better areas have higher taxes that get more funding, compared to those schools that are in more diverse or poor areas with less funding for them. I strongly believe education is the key to having a life you want to live and with those set backs it falls back into a way where we are trying to grow out of.  I do find that technology is important as we are becoming more technology based society but I do feel that the amount of tech work and what schools provide should be equal. I think power points are standard for teachers to use for students to learn a lesson and I also think its good for students to practice and put a presentation on for their classmates rather than always writing a paper, this gives them access to technology as well as public speaking in front of the class. Technology gives us the power to have a diverse learning schedule and not just sticking to the old read and then get tested on the content we use to be all about.

There are a ton of different resources that are similar to one another but also different. There are websites such as padlet that are beneficial but also a lot of other websites that have different styles of accomplishing the same goal such as popplet. This is an example of redefinition because students are able to go in and be creative and start new ideas with collaborate mind maps and the ability for their teachers/ peers have open access to the document they have created. I like these ideas, its like a sense of community and teaches the student open for feedback. Loomio is a cool website because it allows everyone to put in their thoughts followed by liking or disliking the comments and then generates an outcome so its clear and concise for the the students. I feel that the easier the website is to generate the better it would be for the learning environment.
