Collaboration

Collaboration is important for everyone. It can develop more social skills and also working in groups. It is good when we taking and discussing different things and themes. Collaboration will help us be more organized and more develop our topics.
Our quick activity was focus on collaboration where we shared google doc and we could through our ideas or question in the document. Commenting on our peers post help them answer their question or just comment on their thought and ideas.

For student is collaboration a new skill of communication and developing their social skills. They are able to work in pairs or ask question to each other. They can gather different thoughts and expand their thinking.
From my own experience I am not a big fan of group work or group project. In one hand it is good to work in group with a large topic where we can divide curtain topic and later present it as one. But when we don not have enough material to work with and group is big, what happens more often is that two or three people are working and rest is just zoning out. My group situation was more that my friend and I was working and rest of the group was just watching us and had no idea what going on.

Me as a teacher I would let my group in class be small and make sure student have enough material to work with. Also the collaboration with peer-peer, student would ask for help someone else and even if they would not understand I would jump in and explain it to them. Teacher just cannot let student work on their own otherwise they will work for little bit and rest of the time they would chat.

  1. Hey Lenka,
I totally agree with you, I do not care for working in groups at all. Like you said, it's usually pretty common that there are a couple of people in the group that just skate by doing the bare minimum and rely on the others working hard to boost the grade. I don't like having my grade depend on another person, especially if they are lazy.
I do understand the point of working in groups, I mean, even outside of school there are usually instances where we have to work in groups. It's an important skill to learn for young students. As a teacher it is essential that, no matter how big or small the group is, the teacher is attentive to each groups needs and makes sure that everyone is doing their fair share of work.
